I read one time (can't remember where) that if another medication did for a disease what Methadone does for addiction we would be calling it a miracle drug. <br /><br />Thank you for your important work in hospice. I am a nurse and I run ...Rose, thank you for this. I am a nurse and I run a large hospice. We deal with methadone all the time (trying to put people on methadone for pain management). The challenge for people at end of life with comorbidities of substance abuse are , endless. These people are often so afraid of relapse that they would rather die in pain; which to some is a last act of mea culpa. I am planning to share this far and wide with my colleagues, one being Mary Lynn Mcpherson Pharmacology Doctorate who is nationally known for pain management and sings the praises of methadone. Without missing the point of the article (the analogy of addiction to an accepted physiological disorder), this article is very potent.
