A Beautiful Gift

A Beautiful Gift

 By: Rose Barbour

It didn’t come wrapped in a package
With a pretty little bow
But the gift of her son’s recovery
Has set her heart aglow.

So beautiful and fragile
It required special care
One little slip and it may end
Of that, she was aware.

She gently encouraged him
That child she dearly loves
As the hours turned into days
And the days turned into months.

It’s all she ever wanted
To have her boy back home
Her heart is filled with gratitude
For the strength that he has shown.

She wasn’t sure he’d make it
Back from the depths of hell
His addiction was killing him
And it was claiming her as well.

The nightmare has ended
At least for today
Living one day at a time
She lets her worries slip away.

This gift of recovery
Brings an amazing feeling of joy
Thank you, God, for giving her
Back her beautiful boy.

They do recover! As of this writing, my son is 8 months into his recovery. A beautiful gift, indeed!

The Heart of a Mother - A Touching Song

A few days ago, I shared my poem called “The Heart of a Mother” here and on various Facebook groups.

The next day, I received an email from the father of a young woman who is struggling with addiction. It turns out that he is also a singer/songwriter, and he wanted to make my poem into a song. I was so touched and honoured.

Today, he sent me the song with a video. To say that I was blown away would be an understatement. I had goose bumps and tears. He has an amazing voice that brought the poem to life in a way that I never expected.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. He brought together two complete strangers – a mother and a father – from different continents so that they could create something beautiful and powerful. The response to the song has been amazing.  I love it so much, and I hope that you do too! Please watch, listen and share so that it reaches the people who need to hear it the most!

Sincerely,
Rose

Update:  I am so pleased to tell you that the song is now available for free download. If you go into You Tube, you will find the download link in the description. Enjoy!

The Heart of a Mother

The Heart of a Mother

By Rose Barbour

With her broken heart
She prays each night
Hoping for the day
That her child will see the light.

Feeling alone in the darkness
Her heart can hardly bear
The thought of her child
Sleeping on the street somewhere.

There is no rest for the weary
As one crisis follows another
The pain runs deep
In the heart of a mother.

Not much help to be had
Only stigma and shame
As she suffers in silence
In this deadly game.

The strain on her family
And relationships, too
But, she loves her child
What is she supposed to do?

It takes a strong mother
To love one with addiction
Why she was chosen
I believe, is God’s recognition.

He knew she could handle it
He knew the depths of her love
He knew he could trust her
With His child from above.

This nightmare may have made her
Question her faith
But, I have no doubt that in Heaven
For her, God has a special place.

Dedicated to all the parents who are carrying unbelievable burdens.  I know you don't feel like it, but you are strong and amazing. After all, this journey is not for the weak at heart.
