The Opiate Effect: An important and powerful video


When I watched the video below called "The Opiate Effect", I knew that every man, woman and child had to see it. Through the years, I've watched many good videos on addiction but only two of them ever made it on this blog. This is number three.

The video is informative, powerful, and NECESSARY! As a society, we can fight the prescription drug epidemic by getting educated. Two important things that the video covers are what our kids think about the drug talks we have with them, and how all of the stereotypes that we grab onto as a way to try to understand this dilemma don’t apply. This powerful video covers so much more than that too!

    This is such a sad reality for so many people. My heart breaks for all the people who suffer because of this terrible addiction.

    This is a great video and really shows the reality. I think however, that we need to push the fact that oxy is NOT safe as prescribed. FDA warning label indeed indicates warnings, although not a strong enough warning. And, I think we need to require a dual prescription when physicians prescribe oxy. Every prescription for oxy MUST be written with naloxone as overdose is a risk written on the label. This may be a first step in deterrence when physician is prescribing as this drug is NOT safe as prescribed.

      Good point about it not being safe as prescribed! Many people become addicted because they were legitimately prescribed an opiate. Thank you for commenting.

    I have an aunt who was prescribed Percocet, to deal with her pain after a car accident she was in many years ago. The pain that was caused from the accident has probably been gone for some time now, however the daily pain she endures, physically, mentally and spiritually is on a daily basis. Unfortunately her disease of addiction lead her to oxycodone as well, and her life has been a downward spiral for the last 10 years. My family and I have tried to help her, by taking her to meetings, detox ,doing interventions, have said many many prayers for her,however she hasn't hit her bottom yet, even after two near death experiences. I myself am a recovering alcoholic/addict with almost a decade of sobriety, and understand that unless you Accept that you are an addict, do the 12 steps, go to meetings and not pick up that first drug/drink, you will not get better. "Nothing changes if nothing changes." My prayers are sent to all of the courageous people in the video, to you (Rose), and your son, and all other suffering addicts. Thank you to all who were a part of making this video, it gives other's hope and educates.

      Thank you so much for sharing some of your story. Congratulations on your own recovery. That is wonderful and inspiring. I am sorry that your aunt still struggles. It makes it especially sad when she was prescribed the medication that controls her life now. I pray that she finds her way out of the grips of addiction. xo
